JILLANA BURGESS - Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher

Jillana is the owner/operator and co-ordinator of the Dartmouth Yoga Centre. But first, she is a student and a teacher of yoga. Having traveled and lived abroad for 10 years, both in Europe and the United States, her yoga journey began somewhere along the path of her travels and intertwined itself with her understanding of this vast and diverse world we live in. 

A Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher since 2016,  Jillana completed her first Yoga Teacher Training in Northampton, Massachusetts in 2010. Soon after, she found her path leading her home, to Nova Scotia, where she went on to do Advanced Training in Yoga and another in Therapeutics with Hart Lazer in Montreal. Having been strongly influenced and inspired by the Iyengar Yoga tradition from the very start, Jillana began the Iyengar Teacher Training process in 2014 under the guidance of Deborah Lomond. This commitment to her studies led her to India to study with Geeta Iyengar the same year, an experience which profoundly affected her practice and her life.  Jillana recently completed her 3rd intensive study in India at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute (RIMYI), the heart of Iyengar Yoga.

Jillana’s teaching is fluid and dynamic. She puts strong emphasis on structure and alignment, without neglecting the fluidity of the postures, and of our bodies. Props such as blocks, belts, bolsters, and chairs are used to support and enhance the experience of a posture, making them accessible and safe for all levels of practice.

Level II, BEYOND the BASICS - Monday 5:45-7:15pm Expanding on the foundations and the actions of the standing poses, in this class we learn to carry these actions into all other categories of posture (forward bends, backbends & twists). 

Cost : $20 Drop-in or

           $130 for 8 class pass (expires after 3 months)

Level I, YOGA BASICS - Tuesday 9:30-11am

If you're just getting started, or need a refresher course, this class will help you to establish strength and stability in the standing poses while learning to connect to the intelligence of your body.

LUNCH HOUR YOGA - Tuesday 12-1pm *currently on hold will return in the Spring

50 min of structured movement to break up your day. ALL levels.

*You are welcome to arrive at 12pm and take 10 min for Restorative practice, before class begins.
     Drop-in: $16 or

     $110 for 8 class pass (expires after 3 months, hst included)

BASIC & RESTORATIVE YOGAThursdays 5:45-7:15pm 

This class combines the foundations of yoga with the calming qualities of a restorative practice, as we explore how to find Savasana in every pose. Beginning with a foundation of asana to channel energy into and through the legs we will then work from there towards a quiet mind. This class will start with a challenge, but end with deep rest and increased understanding of the body, mind and breath connections.

Cost : $20 Drop-in or 

$100 full 6 week session 

*students with a class pass for Level I or II classes can use their pass for this class too.

BEGINNER YOGA - Friday 10:00-11:15 am

6 week session

This class is for raw beginners, or anyone still in their first year of yoga practice. We’ll break down each pose, and start from the ground up so that you can build a solid foundation for your practice. Most of the focus will be on Standing poses.

Cost: $100 full session, No experience required!



PRANAYAMA 101 - Friday 10:00-11:15 am

6 week session, when offered... next one TBA

This class will focus on all the ways we can create space, for breath. The fourth limb of yoga, Pranayama, is the Art of Breathing, and breath is the emotional bridge that links the body to the mind. By working with our breath we expand & strengthen our emotional boundaries and learn to find balance in both the body and the mind. 

Cost : $100+hst full session. *some previous yoga experience is required.
