Yoga Nidra, also known as yogic sleep is a deeply restorative, healing practice.
“1 hour of Yoga Nidra is equivalent to 4 hours of sleep”
What to expect:
A warm and inviting class; lights low, relaxing music plays in the background
to set the stage for a blissful experience beginning with some gentle seated stretches
to unwind and prepare our bodies for yoga nidra.
The class itself is done lying on your back in savasana - eyes closed, settling it with your pillow and blanket. Once you are settled in, all you need to do is let go - breathe - be - and listen, as you are guided through a deeply healing yoga nidra meditation.
*Yoga Nidra has been known to help alleviate and heal stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, insomnia, and physical ailments (to name a few)*

If you’ve been on the fence, or meaning to start a yoga practice, or wondering what yoga really is (and isn’t) all about, then this 6 week Introduction is for you.
Our bodies are sculpted around our habits. Old habits create patterns that can either be healthy or unhealthy, but if you’re feeling stuck, physically or mentally, then the only way to get ‘unstuck’ is to create a new habit! In it simplest form, Yoga, is about Being in your Body. When all else falls away, isn’t it nice to just always know you have a Home to come back to.

This class is for raw beginners, or anyone who is in their first year of yoga practice. We’ll break down each pose, and start from the ground up so that you can build a solid foundation for your practice. As we learn to establish the Leg actions (our ROOTS to the world) we will begin to understand how to lengthen and extend UP through the Spine to limber up and create more Freedom of movement, and spirit.

Learn the Ropes!, with Jillana Burgess
Yoga Kurunta is a method of performing a variety of asanas with the help of a rope to enable the student to attain accuracy, agility and balance. Designed by BKS Iyengar, the rope wall offers support that can allow us to create space throughout the length of the spine. The ropes can be used specifically to alleviate shoulder tension & lower back pain, as they can relieve pressure and compression on targeted joints.

Women’s practice, how to modify your monthly practice

This two hour class is designed to introduce you to all the ways that you can adapt your yoga practice while on your monthly cycle. Many women assume that they have to skip their yoga practice while menstruating, but in fact this can be the very best time to tune in to your body and deepen your relationship with yourself (aka...the most important relationship there is!) Modifying your yoga practice at this time can help to relieve the tension and discomfort that often comes with our menstrual cycle, and help us encourage a smoother flow, and healthier cycle on the physical, mental and emotional levels.
During this workshop, you will learn a supportive and restorative sequence that you can practice during your pre-menstrual and menstrual phases.
**Handouts will also be given out so that you can also practice at home.

During the Basic experiential workshop, participants are introduced to core shamanism, the universal, near-universal, and common methods of the shaman to enter non-ordinary reality for problem solving and healing. Particular emphasis is on the classic shamanic journey, one of the most remarkable visionary methods used by humankind to explore the hidden universe otherwise known mainly through myth and dream. Participants are initiated into shamanic journeying, aided by drumming and other techniques for experiencing the shamanic state of consciousness and for awakening dormant spiritual abilities, including connections with Nature. Participants learn how the journey is utilized to restore spiritual power and health, and how shamanism can be applied in contemporary daily life to help heal oneself, others, and the Planet.

Yoga Anatomy Basics: The Relationship between Posture and Pain

Do you have neck or lower back pain? Perhaps mysterious shoulder or knee pain that has come on slowly, for no apparent reason? Or maybe you feel “stuck” in part of your yoga practice and aren’t sure why. Your posture and/or repeated daily movements (including your yoga practice!) may be at the source of your discomfort. Learn how posture contributes to mechanical pain in the neck, back and extremities; and how shifts in body awareness, alignment and your yoga practice can create a stronger, more stable spine and promote pain-free movement. Discover how small adjustments in awareness and alignment in common yoga poses can reduce pain and improve overall stability and freedom of movement on and off the mat.

We are pleased to announce that Yoga Yogendra Mishra, a Senior Traditional Hatha Yoga Master from Rishikesh, India, will be teaching a class on the Full View of Yoga, the philosophy behind the practice, as outlined in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. Yogiji teaches internationally and this will be his 9th time teaching in Nova Scotia. We are excited and honored to be hosting him at DYC. This teaching will help to shine some light on the deep history and lineage of this ancient practice, and how to bring the full view of yoga into your modern day yoga practice.
